The study and creation of a new brand is a crucial and exciting project, aimed at further increasing the valorization of the product of those “heroic” vineyards that require so much effort from farmers; but even more exciting is the moment in which the new brand is “acquired” by companies and used on the bottles of our wines. And that is exactly what is happening: the registered brand immediately met with the favor of winemakers, but also of representatives of the various categories of the sector responsible for receiving the memberships. It is a turning point, an important signal, a step that will make history shared immediately by these first producers who will certainly be followed by many others. And this is the long-awaited moment, the project has materialized after a long work, which included meetings and inspections of the vineyard territory, with a census that covered almost 20,000 hectares. And the credit goes to the young administrators of the Sorì Commission, within the Association of Moscato Municipalities which is based in Santo Stefano Belbo.
In order to be able to boast the new “Sorì Eroici” brand, the owners of the plots located on the slopes of the hills of the Moscato territory but not only, because the use is also valid for the other denominations of origin, will have to submit a request to the trade associations with which they usually collaborate; through their offices a form will be filled out and sent via PEC email to the Walden studio, responsible for verifying the existence of the necessary conditions also with on-site inspections, and a copy to the Associazione Comuni del Moscato, which will finally receive a database with all the successful registrations, being the body responsible, also for control, of the project.
Each plot that is found to be suitable will then be entered, and will receive a unique identification code, which will accompany the vineyard in all the steps, including the subsequent part that will identify the product in the cellar processes. During the harvest, the producer will send a communication to the Association of Moscato Municipalities, which will concern both the grape product and the related wine product. On behalf of the Association, on a certain number of operators, Valoritalia (which collaborates in the verification operations) will ensure that the rules are respected, in any case only in the cellar phases, with communication of a positive or negative outcome to the Association, which will take charge of the operators' expenses.
The regulation indicates to the producers the rules for being able to use the brand. For the definition of the Sorì, the position of the plot on the northern slope is excluded from the start. All other slopes are valid and, indicatively, plots with a slope equal to or greater than 40% are automatically included, while for smaller slopes other conditions are evaluated, such as the impossibility of using mechanical means for processing, and in any case the application of a “weighted average” is also foreseen, in the case of single plots but with different slopes. Very important is the need for companies to adhere to the Environmental Certification protocols, therefore having environmental certifications such as organic, biodynamic, SQNPI protocol, The Green Experience and other sustainability protocols certified by accredited bodies, alternatively adhering to the agro-environmental actions of the Piedmont Region (Integrated Agriculture Certification).
The costs refer to the work carried out by Walden technicians, who took care of the mapping and who now carry out the field checks, reporting great precision in the measurement and definition of the vineyard that will become a “Sorì”.
The certification of the vineyards has a cost of 160 euros + VAT per hectare with a minimum rate of 300 euros total + VAT for each company.
The cost is also understood if at the first control check the plot does not have the requirements and does not continue the adhesion process, because the verification work by the technicians must still be covered.
Vineyards that are not bordering on the company's property can be evaluated.
In the final definition of the operation, the Association, having received all the necessary elements, sends the company the graphic manual for the use of the new “Sorì Eroici” brand, in addition to the logo that can be placed on the label, on the back label or on the capsule, alternatively to the use of a sticker, with the dimensions that will be decided.
As for the colors of the logo, a basic version is planned that includes three shades, one for each different element that appears in the graphics (the sun, the vineyard, the writing); alternatively, other colors can be chosen, but they must.
